Pick up this Freebie! yeah, I figured out how to upload to Google Docs. (seriously, I could not figure that out--Umm, don't judge me, I can't believe how easy that was.)

These can be printed on Avery or Post It labels--Template 5160

I have also included labels which read "Gobble Gobble". You can use these sticks during the month of November.  Replace Pop--With Gobble Gobble!

*POP* and Office Max Deals

This is going to be a quick post about some deals I found at Office Max while on the hunt for construction paper.  Both of my kiddos have projects due this week, and of course I was out of the essentials--glue and construction paper.
While there, I found these great labels on clearance form Post-It.  Usually I would buy plain white, but then I had a great idea to use with the colors. I also found this adorable owl coin purse. I'm all about OWLs this year, so I couldn't resist.  (The jumbo Craft sticks are from Michaels)

*POP*  it's a sight word game my class absolutely loves.  I write the words on sticks and place them in a cup. The kids pull a stick and say the word, then pass the cup.  If they get *POP* they have to put their words back.   Well, I decided using the labels and typing the words would be a lot better use of my time.  I used the different colors for each quarter's words.  Now I am set for the rest of the year. 

This is my son playing with my new game!  Since he is a First Grader--His opinion counts.  He loves it!

These Sharpeners were $.10!  Crazy cheap.  Oh, and these are my new favorite pens--they write great and they are erasable. Love them!

Stuff, Fall Writing, SKYPE and a 1k Giveaway

This week seems to have flown by. We have been having so much fun in our class this week, that I've barely had time to think. Two days in a row, I could not find my phone.  On Wednesday, I put it in the pocket of my lunch box and then returned my lunch box to the fridge at school and forgot all about it. Yesterday, I left it at home and didn't realize until lunch time that I didn't have it.  I can't believe how dependent I am on such a small thing. Anyway that little incident makes me think of this song....

It was my background music all week! Needless to say, I am truly blessed with the most wonderful class this year.

Onto all the FUN Stuff!!!

My October Mystery Word has officially started!  Unfortunately, this was not hard enough for my firsties!  They got it way too quick.  They love trying to guess the word.  I give little clues and hints and it's a great way to get them thinking critically.

Fall Into Writing started this week with Fall. We brainstormed after reading picture books about Fall. We planned on our sentence map and then wrote our sentences.  Lastly they illustrated their writing. They did such a great job!  Can't wait to see what the rest of the month brings.

The best part about Friday, is being able to add a little "art" into my day. We are studying Objects in the sky in science. We made the sky with the sun and splatter painted our stars.  Later, after they dried, we wrote about what you can see in the sky in the day and night.

Last, but not least, (sorry no photo) my class did something truly wonderful and amazing. I have a boy in my class this year who is "hospital/homebound" because he battling Leukemia. His name is Julian and he is quite an amazing kid. He is a friend of my sons and so we have used SKYPE to have a virtual playdate at home.  I had the idea, to do this with my class. After many calls texts, I was able to get it accomplished.  This week My whole class got to Video Chat with Julian.  He had written them a letter about things he liked to do and asked them what they liked. I had each child write an answer to Julian on an Index card. After lunch, we "called" Julian. He got to see us, and we got to see him.  It was so great!  Hopefully we can do it again soon.
